Abstract: While humanity has not yet observed any extraterrestrial intelligence (ETI), contact with ETI remains possible. Contact could occur through a broad range of scenarios that have varying consequences for humanity. However, many discussions of this question assume that contact will follow a particular scenario that derives from the hopes and fears of the author. In this paper, we analyze a broad range of contact scenarios in terms of whether contact with ETI would benefit or harm humanity. This type of broad analysis can help us prepare for actual contact with ETI even if the details of contact do not fully resemble any specific scenario.

There’s no shortage of ideas on how to help the faltering economy, but Nobel Prize winning economist and New York Times columnist Paul Krugman has come up with what has to be the oddest suggestion yet: Fake a looming invasion from outer space. In an interview with CNN, Krugman cited “a Twilight Zone episode in which scientists fake an alien threat in order to achieve world peace. Well, this time… we’d need it in order to get some fiscal stimulus.” According to Krugman’s tossed-off theory, we’d need a massive buildup to counter the apparently looming invasion. “[If] inflation and budget deficits took secondary place to that, this slump would be over in 18 months.” (Watch the video below). Valid hypothesis… or just plain silly?

Iraq tourism hangs in balance at Babylon

The words “tourism” and “Iraq” don’t often get used in the same sentence these days, but if a new project to help preserve the historic ruins of Babylon pays off, archaeologists and officials say the country could soon be back on the international travel map.

So far, 2011 has been a good year for Babylon. Work funded by a $2 million U.S. State Department grant to restore two major structures has begun and one of two museums on the site damaged in the aftermath of the 2003 U.S.-led invasion is re-opening.

Home to several other ancient sites, including Ur — the capital of the ancient civilization of Sumeria — Iraq faces a race against time to protect its heritage against looters, environmental hazards and the ravages of modern life.

It is hoped the project at Babylon, whose legendary Hanging Gardens were one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, will help foster the skills needed to transform Iraq’s other renowned archaeological sites into a major draw for academics and tourists.

Originally known as Babel, Babylon is mentioned in both the Old and New Testaments in the Bible. The city was the site of the legendary Tower of Babel and features in several Biblical prophecies.

Congress quietly prepares to renew Patriot Act

Rep. Mike Rogers (R-MI) has introduced a little-noticed bill that intends to once again renew controversial provisions of the Bush administration’s USA Patriot Act that are due to expire this year.

When the act was first signed into law, Congress put in some “sunset” provisions to quiet the concerns of civil libertarians, but they were ignored by successive extensions. Unfortunately, those concerns proved to be well founded, and a 2008 Justice Department report confirmed that the FBI regularly abused their ability to obtain personal records of Americans without a warrant.

The United States Patriot Act is similar to the legislations carried out by the Nazi Germany in the World War II era, a former CIA officer says.

“The Patriot Act was similar to legislation carried out by the Nazis because essentially it was using terrorism in both cases as an excuse to strip civil liberties that were enjoyed in both countries; in the United States and Germany,” Phillip Giraldi said in an interview with Press TV.

“Governments have been willing to use fear, such as fear of terrorism, and fear of the enemy, as a way to get the people lined up in support of government policies. Very often these policies are essentially bad for the people because they take away many of their rights,” the former CIA officer said.

He went on to say that the relationship between the American citizens and the US government has changed for the worse since the introduction of the Patriot Act, adding that Americans had not become any safer by their rights being stripped away.

The US Patriot Act and desecration of the constitution has brought a dictatorship surveillance society of phone tapping, hidden cameras and policy brutality in the United States, Giraldi said.

The act, which was hastily adopted six weeks after the 2001 terrorist attacks, allows the US government to spy on its citizens without the need for a court order.

In February 2010, the House of Representatives and the Senate approved the extension of the Bush-era bill and sent it to President Obama who thereby signed the legislation into law.

Kevin Rudd’s e-Health bill paves the way for PositiveID human implantable RFID microchips

From July 1st every single Australian will be branded with a unique, 1.16 digit identification number courtesy of Medicare Australia in accordance with Kevin Rudd’s new e-health revolution. The stated purpose of this act 2.“is to provide a way of ensuring that an entity that provides, or an individual who receives, healthcare is correctly matched to health information that is created when healthcare is provided.” Understandably it is a simple transition from localized medical records to an online system, that would allow your medical records to be accessed by medical facilities all across Australia.

For many this would seem to be the perfect solution to holiday accidents and prevent any unnecessary delays when facing treatment from an uncommon doctor who would require any past medical records. If a doctor in a different state previously treated you, they would need to determine if any further treatments/medications could cause adverse reactions to a prescription you or your family might currently be on. Having access to your usual doctors detailed medical reports, anywhere in the country, might just be a life saver. But is there more to it than meets the eye? There is indeed a surreptitious plan to set up the ground work for this system to progress seamlessly to implantable RFID microchips. All that would be required is a simple distribution of the PositiveID microchip and the necessary RFID scanners into the medical infrastructure – the software side would already be functioning at full steam.

community facilities, GP’s, laboratories, health funds, professional associations, special interest groups and individual consumers”. The introduction of this system would aim to revolutionize the way medical records are accessed and updated, ensuring every time it is accessed by a medical professional, the information is up to date and accurate. 4.Privacy advocates have lambasted the proposed bill quoting medical record privacy breaches, in 2007-2008 there were 234 serious accounts of this occurring yet 160 of these resulted in an emailed warning or counseling. If the Unique patient identification number was to go ahead, Australian Privacy Foundation chair Roger Clarke said “The situation will be many hundreds of times worse, as the HI database will ultimately be accessed by more than 600,000 medical providers and organizations”.

Knowing of the obvious security flaws that are inherent with a system of this scale, why does the Rudd government choose to bulldoze it into legislation? Could this in fact be the Hegelian dialectic at work? It could very well be a future road map that would lead to the more ‘secure’ method of accessing medical records via RFID implants as scores of complaints flood the media regarding security breaches and invasions of ‘privacy’. Scott R. Silverman, chairman and CEO of PositiveID claims 5.“In addition to helping consumers protect themselves from identity theft as it pertains to credit fraud, we are also focused on combating the growing problem of medical identity theft, which affects 7 percent of identity theft victims”. How noble of Scott.

Lets move to the hardware side of things, as we already have established that Medicare is providing the 16 digit number. Why 16-digits? Introducing the PositiveID implantable RFID microchip. The microchip itself 6.contains only a 16-digit number that when scanned with a hand held reader, connects to a secure online database. The database houses the patient’s identification information and personal health record data. The Council of Australian Governments even state themselves that 7.“The identifiers are an important building block for the future introduction of a patient-controlled Individual Electronic Health Record“. Scott R. Silverman states, on behalf of PositiveID, 8.“we put consumers in charge of their own health information through a robust, patient-controlled interface.” Interesting indeed.

9.It has been established already that IBM has seed funded PositiveID since inception, would it come as any surprise to you that 10.Medicare relies on IBM for its technology infrastructure and has just paid $189 million for a one-year extension on a services contract? Of course not. This is the most disturbing element, the very people designing and maintaining the system currently in use in Australia, are also the ones behind the PositiveID RFID microchip for humans.

Currently Microsoft and Google both have an e-health record management service. Microsoft’s product is ‘MS HealthVault’, Google’s is simply ‘Google Health’. 11.Both of these services are fully interoperable with PositiveID’s RFID microchip. 12.Microsoft has already made a submission to the national health and hospitals reform commission (NHHRC) and proposed an electronic health record system for the improvement of Australia’s healthcare. 13.Google isn’t far behind in the race either, with CEO Eric Schmidt stating that he “hopes to deliver Google Health to Australia by the end of the year”.

Staying true to the science of gradualism, we are having an information cage slowly erected around us and we won’t know until it is too late to do anything about it. Maybe the implantable RFID microchips are coming sooner rather than later, we do know that they will be introduced for the purpose of cost efficiency and ‘reliability’ of patient identification, perhaps a failed e-health system could provide the perfect chaos to accommodate an implantable RFID solution. What we wont be told is that it will simply be a ‘plug in’ upgrade to our existing infrastructure, meaning a rapid deployment nation wide. To some money minded bureaucratic sell outs, this is an extremely easy system to sell to an uneducated public.

Australians have already researched the ‘benefits’ of implantable microchips in a published article titled 14.“Lend me your arms: the use and implications of humancentric RFID”. The article suggests that social and ethical concerns “plague the technology” yet goes on to imply that “Initial adoption of the invasive technology has met with some success but any real assessment of the industry is prejudiced by the commercial monopoly of the VeriChip Corporation [now known as PositiveID]”. “Security and convenience are generic wants” and “Care-related humancentric RFID devices provide unparalleled portability for medical records.” To all the disbelievers that think the human microchipping agenda is light years away, think again, this article was published in 2006.

I’m going to be keeping my eye on the Rudd governments new health plan, in particular the 15.$436 million dollars that has been proposed to deal with the rising number of diabetics – just how much of this money is going to be used for a feasibility analysis of PositiveID’s iGlucose system? 16.“The iGlucose system is a standalone, self-contained unit that will automatically query a diabetic’s data-capable glucometer for blood glucose data and send that data via encrypted SMS text messaging to an online database.“ The machine is well oiled and vigilance is needed, we are dealing with a company that has no qualms when it comes to 17.micro chipping Alzheimer patients with 18.cancer causing RFID microchips. There is going to be a huge, vulnerable market in the form of diabetic patients and with the 19.US government and now the 20.Australian government both trying to tackle the expanding financial burden that this disease places on both respective economies. You don’t have to look too far for an ‘easy’ and ‘cost effective’ solution, especially with PositiveID ready to jump at any opportunity it can to ‘help’.

Modern Day Babylon

Coincidences stopped occuring a long time ago for me, I started realising that everything happens for a specfic reason. That said, there are some world leaders who are following ancient scripture in a sick way or there is way more to the holy book(s) than people think. Here is a piece of history regarding babylon and babel tower that you might now have know. Tell me, why is the European Parliment building a modern replica of this tower? What kind of joke is this?

 Babylon (Syriac: ܒܵܐܒܸܠ or ܒܐܒܠ‎) was a city-state of ancient Mesopotamia, the remains of which are found in present-day Al Hillah, Babil Province, Iraq, about 85 kilometers (55 mi) south of Baghdad. All that remains of the original ancient famed city of Babylon today is a mound, or tell, of broken mud-brick buildings and debris in the fertile Mesopotamian plain between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, in Iraq. Although it has been reconstructed, historical resources inform us that Babylon was at first a small town, that had sprung up by the beginning of the third millennium BC (the dawn of the dynasties). The town flourished and attained prominence and political repute with the rise of the First Babylonian Dynasty. It was the “holy city” of Babylonia by approximately 2300 BC, and the seat of the Neo-Babylonian Empire from 612 BC. The Hanging Gardens of Babylon were one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

The form Babylon is the Greek variant of Akkadian Babilu (bāb-ilû, meaning “Gateway of the god(s)”, translating Sumerian Ka.dingir.ra). In the Hebrew Bible, the name appears as בבל (Babel), interpreted by Book of Genesis 11:9 to mean “confusion” (of languages), from the verb balbal, “to confuse”.

Abstract

A method and apparatus for simulation of hearing in mammals by introduction of a plurality of microwaves into the region of the auditory cortex is shown and described. A microphone is used to transform sound signals into electrical signals which are in turn analyzed and processed to provide controls for generating a plurality of microwave signals at different frequencies. The multifrequency microwaves are then applied to the brain in the region of the auditory cortex. By this method sounds are perceived by the mammal which are representative of the original sound received by the microphone.

The Strawman Illusion – You are a Slave.

This issue has confused me for a while, I first watch Jordan Maxwells basic introduction to it on youtube. That got me thinking. From then I have seen Mark McMurtries excellent video series regarding the law and also Thomas J Andersons documentary ‘The Strawman Illusion’. Ever since 1913, most countries around the world have been operating with a private central bank issuing its currency. As the private bank lends the cash to the governments of the world, with interest, the governments have no way possible to pay them back. Ever since 1933 every major country has been BANKRUPT. That is why our $$$$ is worth nothing, it is just worthless paper/plastic. What gives our currency value, is our potential to WORK. We are slaves.

How does this happen? When a boat docks on shore to a foreign land it is berthed. Before anyone or anything can leave the vessel, the ships captain must present the people on the dock with a certificate that details everything that the vessel is carrying, so that the net worth can be valued accordingly eg. gold, foodstock, valuables. When we are born – birthed – our mothers sign a ‘birth certificate’, this is necessary and has been seperated from the traditional method of simply adding our name to a family bible because — we are worth money to the government. Its true, if you get a copy of your original birth certificate it has on it a STOCK EXCHANGE number that you can readily get valued on the market.

What this certification process does at the time is create a corporate entity of the same name that the real life soul (child) carries. For example, Winston Smith is born on a sunny day in 1919, his mother signs a birth certificate which creates the corporate entity named WINSTON SMITH. Note the all caps name. This is deception on a massive scale and its right under our noses. Think about it, every single piece of legislation you have signed carries your all caps, legal fiction. Instead of operating under common law, we have been tricked into voluntarily being suppressed by Admirality Law. UCC. We are products and we dont even realise it. This all caps fiction WINSTON SMITH is considered the strawman of Winston Smith, the natural human soul.

Our countries aren’t the countries we think they are, they are simply CORPORATIONS in every sense of the word. The FREEMAN societies that are popping up all over the internet are all about reclaiming consent of your strawman. Take ownership of your digital self and start being treated like a human again. Emergency Shelter or Emergency Detention?

There over 800 prison camps in the United States, all fully operational and ready to receive prisoners. They are all staffed and even surrounded by full-time guards, but they are all empty. These camps are to be operated by FEMA should martial law need to be implemented in the United States and all it would take is a presidential signature on a proclamation and the attorney general’s signature on a warrant to which a list of names is attached. . . The Rex 84 Program was established on the reasoning that if a “mass exodus” of illegal aliens crossed the Mexican/US border, they would be quickly rounded up and detained in detention centers by FEMA. Rex 84 allowed many military bases to be closed down and to be turned into prisons. Operation Cable Splicer and Garden Plot are the two sub programs which will be implemented once the Rex 84 program is initiated for its proper purpose. Garden Plot is the program to control the population. Cable Splicer is the program for an orderly takeover of the state and local governments by the federal government. FEMA is the executive arm of the coming police state and thus will head up all operations. The Presidential Executive Orders already listed on the Federal Register also are part of the legal framework for this operation. The camps all have railroad facilities as well as roads leading to and from the detention facilities. Many also have an airport nearby. The majority of the camps can house a population of 20,000 prisoners. Currently, the largest of these facilities is just outside of Fairbanks, Alaska. The Alaskan facility is a massive mental health facility and can hold thousands of people.

Why exactly are prisons being built for “the rapid development of new programs”. Halliburton’s company site confirms that the government is engaged in a massive construction and preparation exercise to build concentration camps and prisoner processing facilities in the United States. This is particularity astonishing and disturbing considering that the U.S. already incarcerates more orders of magnitude more people than any other nation, about on-par with U.S.S.R. at the height of Stalin’s era.

The contract of the Halliburton subsidiary KBR to build immigrant detention facilities is part of a longer-term Homeland Security plan titled ENDGAME, which sets as its goal the removal of “all removable aliens” and “potential terrorists.” In the 1980s Richard Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld discussed similar emergency detention powers as part of a super-secret program of planning for what was euphemistically called “Continuity of Government” (COG). These men planned for suspension of the Constitution, not just after nuclear attack, but for any “national security emergency,” which they vaguely defined in Executive Order 12656 of 1988.

Over 800 concentration camps are reported throughout the United States, all fully operational and ready to receive U.S. Prisoners who disagree with the government. The concentration camps are all staffed and manned by full-time guards, however, they are all empty. These camps are to be operated by FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) when Martial Law is implemented in the United States (at the stroke of a Presidential pen and the Attorney General’s signature on a warrant).

The camps have railroad facilities as well as roads leading to and from the detention facilities, many have airports. Like Auschwitz, some of the camps have airtight buildings and furnaces. The majority of the camps can each house a population of 20,000 prisoners. Currently, the largest of these facilities is just outside of Fairbanks, Alaska. The Alaskan facility is a massive “mental health” facility and can hold approximately 2 million people.

Following the Halliburton subsidiary KBR (formerly Kellogg Brown and Root) announcement on Jan. 24 that it had been awarded a $385 million contingency contract by the Department of Homeland Security to build detention camps, two weeks later, on Feb. 6, Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff announced that the Fiscal Year 2007 federal budget would allocate over $400 million to add 6,700 additional detention beds (an increase of 32 percent over 2006. What is interesting in the Homeland Security plan is that each concrete prison bed costs $60,000 per bed! Observing these concentration camps and general jail and prison facilities throughout the U.S., the Homeland Security plan is clearly buffered to build significantly more than 6,700 additional beds.

Is there preparation for 2012? Who knows.

Man About to Fire Off a Monkey to Mars

As the title reads, the stir crazy Russians have had enough of India and America pulling out the big guns in space. India one upped NASA by discovering water on the moon, so USA did the typical American thing by discovering water harder and faster by launching a rocket into the moon. That mission effectively bombed the shit out of the lunar surface kicking up dust to be analysed. Good ol’ Yankees.

Russians have had enough of monkeys playing accordions however (is this a Russian thing? lol) and decided its time to shoot them off into space to discover the red planet face to face. They first sent the primates into orbit in 1983 aboard the last Bion flights. Personally I am OK with sending animals into space, animal cruelty doesn’t enter the picture. I would rather it a monkey than a human.

But would could they possibly achieve from sending a monkey as opposed to a robot? I am sure there is a sensor available or a robotic arm that could do anything that a living creature could do, lacking the higher intelligence of a human. The entire experiment is estimated to take 520 days to complete, round trip. The monkey would be accompanied by a robot, in what appears to be a tragically comical mix-up of 2001: A Space Oddity. Lets just hope for the monkeys sake that computers name isn’t HAL.

Just for kicks some other notable events that have taken place involving shooting animals into space aboard rockets were Laika the dog, Ham the chimpanzee and miscellaneous rats & newts. Good times for all!

Now lets stop exploring space for a year or two, fix up Earth, then continue on our merry way! The fascist leadership on the planet is blatantly obvious when you start to consider the cost of one of these experiments compared to some basic shelter and food for the homeless. But yeah just keep firing monkeys into orbit – nice.

 Smart dust: Self-assembling, self-orienting photonic crystals of porous Si

  Micrometer-sized one-dimensional photonic crystals of porous Si that spontaneously assemble, orient, and sense their local environment are prepared. The photonic crystals are generated by electrochemically etching two discrete porous multilayered dielectric mirrors into Si, one on top of the other. The first mirror is chemically modified by hydrosilylation with dodecene before the etching of the second mirror, which is prepared with an optical reflectivity spectrum that is distinct from the first. The entire film is removed from the substrate, and the second mirror is then selectively modified by mild thermal oxidation. The films are subsequently fractured into small particles by sonication. The chemically asymmetric particles spontaneously align at an organic liquid–water interface, with the hydrophobic side oriented toward the organic phase and the hydrophilic side toward the water. Sensing is accomplished when liquid at the interface infuses into the porous mirrors, inducing predictable shifts in the optical spectra of both mirrors.

 Microscopic devices that can move toward specific targets, isolate and detect chemical or biological compounds, and report this information to the macroscopic world could be useful for a variety of environmental monitoring, medical diagnostic, or therapeutic applications. Many of the components needed for such devices are too small or complex to be fabricated by using conventional lithographic tools, and the development of new techniques that can manipulate matter at the nanoscale is currently of great interest. So-called self-assembly reactions provide a convenient means of constructing one-, two-, and three-dimensional objects in this size regime.

 

Avatar & Transhumanism

What a good movie =) I really enjoyed this film, even though it was nothing but a massive advertisement for the transhumanist agenda. Being Australian, I could comparitively view this film as a retelling of my nations heritage. From the first fleet landing ashore in Botany Bay and establishing a colony in 1788 I imagine it had the same devastiting consequences that one can see being played out in Avatar as the invading Humans annihilate the indigenous Na’vi in their quest for a precious mineral. It’s all too familar as the Na’vi fire their arrows at the invading warships.

Another distinct point that goes largely unnoticed is the modern day war and its inherent privitisation by large, profiteering cold-as-steel corporations. The protaganist, Jake, played by Australian actor Sam Worthington makes a fleeting point of it during his introduction to the planet Pandora. This is another huge personal point that alleviated the guilt I lingered upon when I found myself rooting for the Aliens as they were rampaging through the humans. Who’s side was I on? Obviously not the corporations side, like we have a choice anyway.

Transhumanism revolves around the constant improvement of the human race. We have evolved to our limits, and now our minds are moving faster than evolution allows our bodies to adapt. Technologically we are at the point that humans need to start actually laying out ethics and guidelines for progression to proceed. Avatar wraps this dillema in a neatly wrapped present with a big fat bow tie. What does it take to be human? What is a human? Is it a body or is it a soul? According to the Dalai Lama, if he were to reincarnate in 100 years time into a computer, that would be A-OK for him. No qualms there. There is a fight scene in the film that presents this arguement in a picture perfect analogy. The head soldier and Jake are fighting it out, Jake is in his Avatar and the head soldier is in a mechanised chasis much like the loaders from the Alien series. Man in machine vs Man in avatar. Or are they both in machines?

I don’t want to say much more in case I ruin the film for anyone, it’s definitely worth viewing – I’ve seen it twice already because there is so much to take in. Its a great ride.   •  Hearing System. US Patent #4,877,027 Wayne Brunkan, October 31, 1989. A method for directly inducing sound into the head of a person using microwaves in the range of 100 MHz to 10,000 MHz, modulated with a waveform of frequency modulated bursts. Each burst is made up of 10 to 20 uniformly spaced pulses tightly grouped together; burst width is between 500 nanoseconds and 100 microseconds; pulse width between 10 nanoseconds to 1 microsecond. The bursts are frequency modulated by the audio input to create the sensation of hearing in the person whose head is irradiated.
  •  Psycho-Acoustic Projector. US Patent #3,566,347, Andrew Flanders, February 23, 1971. A system for producing aural psychological disturbances and partial deafness of the enemy during combat situations.
  •  Noise Generator and Transmitter. US Patent #4,034,741, Guy Adams and Jesse Carden Jnr, July 12, 1977. An analgesic noise generator.
  •  Method and Apparatus for Reducing Physiological Stress. US Patent #5,562,597, Robert Van Dick, October 8, 1996. Physiological stress in a human is treated by generating a weak electromagnetic field about a quartz crystal. The subject is positioned in the EM field for a period of time sufficient to reduce stress. (Recall the Russian LIDA patent: by reducing stress, subjects become more vulnerable to hypnosis)

A combined subliminal and supraliminal message generator for use with a television receiver permits complete control of subliminal messages and their presentation.   •  Superimposing Method and Apparatus Useful for Subliminal Messages. US Patent #5,134,484. Joseph Wilson, July 28, 1992. Data to be displayed is combined with a composite video signal, data read out to determine the frame sync pulses of the video signal, location of data display within the video image etc. Data may be displayed as a subliminal message, may be derived from pre-recorded or live signal.
  •  Method of Changing a Person’s Behaviour. US Patent #4,717,343. Alan Densky, January 5, 1988. A method of conditioning a person’s unconscious mind in order to effect a desired change in the persons behaviour which does not require the services of a trained therapist. The person to be treated views a program of a video pictures appearing on a screen. The program as viewed by the person’s unconscious mind acts to condition the person’s thought patterns in a manner, which alters that person’s behaviour.
  •  Sound Recording System. US Patent #4,141,344. Louis Barbara, February 27, 1979. In recording an audio program, such as music or voice, on a magnetic tape recorder, an AC signal generator operating at a frequency below 14 Hz provides an A.C baseline for the audio program signal. This 14 Hz or lower signal is sensed by the listener’s ear to create an Alpha or Theta state in the brain when the tape is played back.
  •  Auditory Subliminal Message System and Method. US Patent #4,395,600. Rene Lundy and David Tyler, July 26, 1983. An amplitude controlled subliminal message may be mixed with background music.
  •  Auditory Subliminal Programming System. US Patent #4,777,529. Richard Schultz and Raymond Dolejs, October 11, 1988. An auditory subliminal programming system includes a subliminal message encoder that generates fixed frequency security tones and combines them with a subliminal message signal to produce an encoded message signal which is recorded on audio tape or the like. The decoder/mixer filters the security tones, if present, from the subliminal message and combines the message signals with selected low frequency signals associated with enhanced relaxation and concentration to produce a composite auditory subliminal signal
  • Apparatus for Inducing Frequency Reduction in Brain Wave. US Patent 34,834,701. Kazumi Masaki, May 30, 1989. Frequency reduction in human brain wave is inducible by allowing human brain to perceive 4-16 Hz beat sound. Such beat sound can easily be produced with an apparatus, comprising at least one sound source generating a set of low frequency signals different from each other in frequency by 4-16 Hz. Electroencephalographic study revealed that the beat sound is effective to reduce beta-rhythm into alpha-rhythm, as well as to retain alpha-rhythm.
  •  Ultrasonic Speech Translator and Communication System. US Patent #5,539,705. M.A.Akerman, Curtis Ayers, Howard Haynes. July 23, 1996. A wireless communication system undetectable by radio frequency methods for converting audio signals, including human voice, to electronic signals in the ultrasonic frequency range, transmitting the ultrasonic signal by way of acoustical pressure waves across a carrier medium, including gases, liquids, and solids, and reconverting the ultrasonic acoustical pressure waves back to the original audio signal. This invention was made with Government support under contract DE-AC05-840R21400 awarded by the U.S. Department of Energy to Martin Marietta Energy Systems, Inc.
  •  Non-Audible Speech Generation Method and Apparatus. US Patent #4,821,326. Norman MacLeod, April 11, 1989. A non-audible speech generation apparatus and method for producing non-audible speech signals which includes an ultrasonic transducer or vibrator for projecting a series of glottal shaped ultrasonic pulses to the vocal track of a speaker.
  •  Apparatus for Electrophysiological Stimulation. US Patent #4,227,516. Bruce Meland and Bernard Gindes. October 14, 1980. Apparatus for the electrophysiological stimulation of a patient for creating an analgesic condition in the patient to induce sleep, treat psychosomatic disorders, and to aid in the induction of electrohypnosis and altered states of consciousness.

A method and apparatus for monitoring and obtaining actual bioelectrical characteristics of a subject under predetermined conditions of evoked response stimuli, and by interaction with a computer, applying cutaneous electrical stimulation to the subject, using a signal generator to modify current amplitude and frequency in a direction to achieve bioelectrical characteristics in the subject related to the actual bioelectrical characteristics monitored.
  •  Method and Apparatus for Translating the EEG into Music to Induce and Control Various Psychological and Physiological States to Control a Musical Instrument. US Patent #4,883,067. Knispel et. Al. November 28, 1989. A method and apparatus for applying a musical feedback signal to the human brain, or any other brain, to induce controllable psychological and physiological responses. A signal representing the ongoing electroencephalographic (EEG) signal of a brain preferably is obtained from the electrode location on the scalp known as CZ or P3 in clinical notation. A signal processor converts the ongoing EEG into electrical signals which are converted into music by synthesisers, The music is acoustically fed back to the brain after a time delay calculated to shift the phase of the feedback in order to reinforce specific or desired ongoing EEG activity. The music is comprised of at least one voice that follows the moment-by-moment contour of the EEG in real time to reinforce the desired EEG activity. The music drives the brain into resonance with the music to provide a closed loop or physiological feedback affect. Preferably, the musical feedback comprises additional voices that embody psychoacoustic principles as well as provide the content and direction normally supplied by the therapist in conventional biofeedback.

Improved methods and apparatus for entraining human brain patterns, employing frequency following response (FFR) techniques, facilitate attainment of desired states of consciousness. In one embodiment, a plurality of electroencephalogram (EEG) waveforms, characteristic of a given state of consciousness are combined to yield an EEG waveform to which subjects may be susceptible more readily. In another embodiment, sleep patterns are reproduced based on observed brain patterns during portions of a sleep cycle; entrainment principles are applied to induce sleep. In yet another embodiment, entrainment principles are applied in the work environment to induce and maintain a desired level of consciousness. A portable device also is described.

  •  Device for the Induction of Specific Brain Wave Patterns. US Patent #4,335,710. John Williamson. June 22, 1982. Brain wave patterns associated with relaxed and meditative states in a subject are gradually induced without deleterious chemical or neurologic side effects.
  •  Method and Apparatus for Repetitively Producing a Noise-Like Audible Signal. US Patent #4,191,175. William Nagle, March 4, 1980. A digital pulse generator and shift register repetitively produce bursts of digital pulses at a first adjustable repetition frequency. A low pass amplifier may be connected to the pink noise filter to generate a train of pulses having a repetition frequency near 7 Hz, which pulses a light source in synchronism with the audible noise-like signal.
  •  Apparatus for Transforming Voice Using Networks. US Patent #5,425,130. David Morgan. June 13, 1995. An apparatus for transforming a voice signal of a talker into a voice signal having characteristics of a different person.

Don’t let the nice title fool you, this is the patent for LIDA, the infamous Soviet brainwashing machine. The patient or victim receives the four physical stimuli named in the title which are calibrated such that he “experiences psychical relaxation and gradual transference to sleep” and “The whole system of stimuli which is addressed to the patient’s organism makes use of the first signal system channels.i.e. the receptor zones of the appropriate analysers so that the second signal system channels (mind, intellect, psyche) are avoided, thereby providing for a curative effect, no matter the patient’s psychic condition or his attitude towards the treatment procedure”
  •  Non-Invasive Method and Apparatus for Modulating Brain Signals through an External Magnetic or Electric Field to Reduce Pain. US Patent #4,889,526. Elizabeth Rauscher and William Van Bise. December 26, 1989. This invention incorporates the discovery of new principles which utilise magnetic and electric fields generated by time varying square wave currents of precise repetition, width, shape, and magnitude to move through coils and curtaneously applied conductive electrodes in order to stimulate the nervous system and reduce pain in humans.
  •  Nervous System Excitation Device, later named the “Neurophone”. US Patent #3,393,279. Gills Patrick Flanagan. July 16, 1968. A method of transmitting audio information via a radio frequency signal modulated with the audio info through electrodes placed on the subject’s skin causing the sensation of hearing the audio information in the brain. Perhaps the most remarkable thing about this patient is that Flanagan was only 14 years old when he invented it! Uses vacuum tubes.
  •  Method and System for Simplifying Speech Waveforms. US Patent #3,647,970. G.Patrick Flanagan. March 7, 1972. A complex speech waveform is simplified so that it can be transmitted directly through earth or water as a waveform and understood directly or after amplification. Recognition of Psychological Characteristics from Face

London has on average 100 cameras per person. More and more buildings and street corners where you live are getting littered with the new symbol of the 21st century – the security camera. This isn’t our concern however. I’ve just finished skimming through this PDF document and i’m speechless. You’ve heard about the biometric scanning cameras they now have installed in basically everything to do with public international transport, but did you know they other sciences behind it? Specifically their ability to figure out your psychological profile – not only your facial expression!

The face plays a crucial role in human social cognition. Facial expressions are important signals of internal states – emotions and intentions. Humans also see in the face signals of internal qualities that are more stable over time, like attractiveness as a mate or dominance , etc. 

“There can be little doubt that the face plays a crucial part in our everyday assessment of our fellows. Not only does it enable us to identify transient emotions – flashes of pleasure and rage, disappointment and hatred – it can also help us to make useful judgments about more durable and lasting qualities of personality and character”. Judging personality from face comes from ancient times to nowadays. The belief that the face reveals information about underlying character cuts across national, cultural and geographical boundaries. Several classical Greek and Roman scholars, including Plato and Aristotle, argued that faces contain clues about people’s underlying personalities and dispositions. For over 2500 years many notable philosophers, historians and physicians openly supported the idea that a person’s disposition is reflected in their face.

Abstract:

The nature of computer vision causes the fact that not only computer science researchers are interested in it, but neuroscientists and psychologists, too. One of the main interests for psychology is identification of person’s psychological traits and personality types which can be accomplished by different means of psychological testing: questionnaires, interviews, direct observations, etc. Though that is a general tendency of people to read character into a person’s physical form, especially face. In relation to psychological characteristics recognition, face provides researchers and psychologists with instrument of obtaining information about personality and psychological traits that would be much more objective than questionnaires and neuropsychological tests and could be obtained remotely using person’s facial portrait, with no need for personal involvement. The paper describes approaches to psychological characteristics recognition from facial image such as physiognomy, phase facial portrait, ophthalmogeometry, and explains the need in automating it.

Conclusion:

The paper represents general idea that face provides researchers and psychologists with objective instrument of obtaining information about personality and psychological traits. An up-to-date survey of approaches and methods in psychological characteristics recognition from facial image is provided. In perspective new research task of automating procedures in applications of psychological characteristics recognition from face should be explored. Various approaches and methods developed within face recognition, facial expression recognition, face retrieval, face modeling and animation may be applied and adjusted for recognition of psychological characteristics from face. Undeniably, such automated system of psychological characteristics recognition from face will get countless psychological, educational, business applications. It may be used also as part of medical systems: 1) patient’s psychological state and traits influence the process of medical treatment, and it should be taken into consideration and researched; 2) patient’s psychological characteristics should be taken into account to reflect and construct the psychosomatic model of disease in the environment, which includes biological, psychological, and social factors.
