Transhumanism. Cyborgs. The New and Improved You!

I’ve seen probably 50 documentaries over the past 3 years that have torn my mind to shreds. It’s completely true, everything you thought you knew about the world is wrong. In the big picture we have no fucking clue how this world functions. The band COG is so perfectly named. We are all but cogs in the very machine that Zach de la Rocha gets fired up about. Zach is from another band with such an astute name its bewildering. They were so ahead of their time, and so many people still dont truly get it. One of the heaviest hitting documentaries I have seen of late is called ‘Technocolypse’. It blew my mind, it was all about this ‘transhumanism’ thing.

What is transhumanism? I was going to copy pasta from the dictionary so it looked professional, but tragically i’m left in the lurch because not even the online ditionary itself knows! What a crock. According to wikipedia it is as follows:

Transhumanism“Transhumanism is an international intellectual and cultural movement supporting the use of science and technology to improve human mental and physical characteristics and capacities. The movement regards aspects of the human condition, such as disability, suffering, disease, aging, and involuntary death as unnecessary and undesirable. Transhumanists look to biotechnologies and other emerging technologies for these purposes. Dangers, as well as benefits, are also of concern to the transhumanist movement.”

So being a techhead i’ll translate this for you. You want a bionic arm that can crush a lead pipe to improve your day job as a plumber? Go to town, find your nearest bionic upgrade clinic, pay $10,000 and bang. Bobs yer uncle. This is the future we are looking at, our brave new world. It may seem rediculous and straight out of a science fiction movie – but this is the world we are living in today. The major focus of this documentary I watched, was human conciousness becoming a ‘singularity’, in that human improvement had reached such a pinacle technologically, that its eventually going to get to a point where machines start to take over humans. Time will cease to exist as we know it because change would be taking place at such a radical speed, advancements would leap human kind forward at such an insane pace we wont know what hit us.

Instantly The Matrix trilogy comes to mind, and tragically that is what scares people that have been following the transhumanist movement to death. When will it get to the point where Artificial Intelligence starts looking at humans as meat baggage and starts considering us a detriment to their survival and evolution? All of these questions are raised in ‘Technocolypse’ and they are proposed in a quite disturbing manner.

If anything in this post strikes you as interesting I would highly recommend you divulge your time to this documentary.
